After the success of 'Maia and the Worry Bug' and 'Wishes and Worries' families and schools asked for something for older children. 'Rising Tide' was written and developed for Year 5-8 children. With the generous support of New Zealand Red Cross all children and teachers in Year 5-8 classrooms in Canterbury were funded to receive a free copy. For teachers and parents and therapists outside of Canterbury 'Rising Tide' is available for purchase here.
'Rising Tide was a resource we used to support the resiliency building of our year 4-6 Community who are still in post-quake temporary Learning environments. Rising Tide was an exceptional platform to use for discussing and co-creating pathways of strength with the children. The story was insightful and the activities supported children to think deeply and personally. The families appreciated having a copy of the book for themselves to support the kids with simultaneous conversations at home that supported whanau values.
The text fitted well with our Hauora approach in our Learning Community and was an easy tool for us as educators to use for our children. It also fitted well with our Growth Mindset approach. We would highly recommend this text to educators not only in situations in post-quake Christchurch but in any learning situation to begin the discussions around feelings, resiliency and agency.' -Melva Gill , Year 4-6 Team Leader and Teacher, Ao Tawhiti Unlimited Discovery
